How we handle information about readers
Written in plain language, because a policy nobody can read protects nobody. Last revised August 2026.
1. Who runs this site
BestEver is an independent editorial project publishing rankings and reviews of games that run inside a web browser. The site is operated from Australia and written for an Australian audience, although anyone is welcome to read it.
In this policy, the words we, us and our refer to the people who run BestEver. You and your refer to anyone visiting best-everuk.com.
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what information reaches us when you use best-everuk.com, why it reaches us, how long it stays and what you can do about it. It applies to every page on this domain, including the ranking, the reviews and the legal pages.
It does not apply to the games themselves. When you open a game through a link on this site you leave our domain and land on somebody else's, and their privacy practices apply from that point onward.
3. Information you give us directly
The only way to send us information deliberately is to email us or to type a message into the support chat. If you email, we receive whatever you put in the message along with your email address. If you use the chat, your messages are handled in your own browser and are not stored on a server, which means we cannot read a conversation after you close the tab.
We ask people who report a problem with a game to tell us the device and browser they used. That information is useful for reproducing the problem and is deleted once the issue is resolved.
4. Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, our hosting produces server logs. These record the address of the page requested, the time of the request, a truncated IP address, the browser and operating system reported by your device, and the page that referred you if there was one.
These logs exist for security and for diagnosing faults. They are not used to build a profile of any individual reader and are not combined with any other source of information.
5. Why we process any of it
We process information for three reasons and no others: to keep the site working and secure, to understand in aggregate which pages people find useful, and to reply to anyone who contacts us. There is no advertising network profiling readers on this site.
Where consent is the lawful basis, which applies to analytics cookies, you give that consent through the banner and you can withdraw it at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site.
6. Analytics and measurement
If you accept analytics cookies, we record which pages are opened, roughly how long people stay and which links they follow. The results are read as totals and trends, never as individual sessions, and the data is not sold or shared with advertisers.
If you decline, nothing beyond the strictly necessary storage described in our cookie policy is written to your device, and every part of the site continues to work exactly as before.
7. Affiliate links and outbound clicks
Some links on this site earn us a commission if you visit a game through them. When you follow one, the destination may record that the visit came from us. We do not pass any personal information to those destinations, and we do not receive information about what you do once you arrive.
The commission relationship has no influence on scores or positions. Every game is scored before anyone checks whether a commission exists.
8. Who else can see your information
Our hosting provider processes server logs on our behalf as part of delivering the site. Our email provider processes messages you send us. Neither is permitted to use that information for their own purposes.
We do not sell, rent or trade information about readers. The only circumstance in which we would disclose anything to a third party is a valid legal request, and we would push back on any request that looked overly broad.
9. How long anything is kept
Server logs are kept for thirty days and then discarded automatically. Email correspondence is kept for as long as the conversation is useful and reviewed annually, after which anything no longer needed is deleted.
Cookie preferences live in your own browser until you clear them, and analytics totals are retained in aggregate form with nothing that identifies a person.
10. Security measures
The site is served over an encrypted connection, administrative access requires multi-factor authentication, and the small number of people with that access is reviewed regularly.
No system is perfect. If a breach ever occurred that affected reader information, we would publish a notice on this site and notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where the law required it.
11. Your rights over your information
You can ask what information we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Requests go to the address in the contact section and are answered within thirty days.
You can also object to a particular use of your information. In practice, most objections are resolved by declining analytics cookies, which stops the collection at the source.
12. Children and this site
BestEver is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under thirteen. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we do not run advertising aimed at them.
Several games we cover are perfectly suitable for younger players and one of them is a shooter that is not. Where age suitability is relevant we say so in the review rather than leaving parents to guess.
13. Readers outside Australia
The site is hosted in Australia and information reaching us is handled under Australian law, principally the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.
If you read this site from elsewhere, you are sending information to Australia. Where your local law grants you stronger rights than those described here, we will honour the stronger standard on request.
14. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we replace it in full and note the revision date at the bottom of the page rather than keeping a stack of amendments. Material changes will also be flagged on the home page for a fortnight.
Continuing to use the site after a change means the revised policy applies to your visit. If a change is one you cannot accept, the remedy is simply to stop using the site and clear your stored preferences.
